Extreme Sport

I was talking with Vi about Extreme Sports some days ago. Because we are Extreme Sports fans in that we love Snowboarding and that this Bouldering thing is considered an Extreme Sport too! We talked about how the name doesn’t really cover the load; these sports don’t feel very Extreme to us.. So I told her that the related Wikipedia article has very interesting info about this ..

Definition:

An extreme sport (also called freesportaction sport, and adventure sport) is a popular term for certain activitiesperceived as having a high level of inherent danger.[1][2][3] These activities often involve speed, height, a high level of physical exertion, and highly specialized gear or spectacular stunts.[1]

The definition of an extreme sport is not exact — for example, although studies show that road cycling ranks as the sport with the highest number of injuries,[4] it is not considered an extreme sport because it is not counter-cultural[citation needed].

Interesting.

And so is the rest of the Wikipedia page 🙂 They touch on the age factor (mostly young people) and mention the endorphin and adrenaline rush in the motivation section.

Extreme Sports is a difficult expectation to fill and I guess I could start saying “Adventure Sports”. That d be more correct at any rate.

Its just that Extreme Sports is So Much COOLER!!!!! 😀
