Compiz doesnt work on Dell Latitude with nVidia Quadro

Time to bemoan my personal discomfort on the interweb for anyones personal gain.

I have a Dell Latitude D630 *sob sob*
with a “01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation Quadro NVS 135M (rev a1)” *moan moan* says the lspci
and after installing Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope (Damn, I was a bit off yesterday, I wrote ibex instead of Jackalope.. but I’m all better now 😉 ), the driver wasnt auto installed. No fancy compiz, no naggy dialog about running those dirty propriatary drivers.

So I installed

nvidia-180-kernel-source                        install
nvidia-180-modaliases                           install
nvidia-common                                   install
nvidia-glx-180                                  install
nvidia-settings                                 install

and anything that looks alike (so with nVidia and 180 in the name)

Then offcourse I activated it in the System >Administration > Hardware Drivers menu

It Worked – Hooray 🙂

Posts like this often help me when stuff is failing. So I hope I can help someone with this bitchy post 😉 And if you think this might help, do check the post date & check for newer drivers than the 180 series..
