Why I shop Google Music

Posted: 17th June 2013 by Gert in Android, Cone.be, Interwebs, Planet

I like buying music. I bought a lot of CDs and contrary to some people I have a wad of CDs. Nothing out of the usual though, a few shelves. But I grew tired of buying disks, rippint them to digital and never touching them again. I only listen to digital files, I don’t have [...]

A paragraph from the new tor article. If not using tor, at least realize this The big fear of big brother watching you is no longer really relevant, we give away our data to what has affectionately been called “little sister”. She woes you with pretty images, convenience and a voyeuristic view on the lives [...]

I try to like the @privateerpress war machine app, War Room & it has nice sides. But I’m having a hard time getting over having to buy those cards after buying the MK1 books, MK1 cards deck, MKII books, MKII cards deck and a big feldherr bag full of miniatures.  (With a card each) Feels [...]

Quick GlusterFS Raspberry Pi money math

Posted: 11th January 2013 by Gert in Cone.be, Linux, Planet

I did a quick bit of math, considering replacing my current latest Gluster brick with RaspberryPi bricks. I’m taking 125€ a disk for the HDs, as the actual price doesnt matter that much here. I’m also using the same price for both options, while the Rasp-pi needs USB disks and those will at least cost [...]

Newznab – Adentures in indexing

Posted: 16th December 2012 by Gert in Cone.be, Interwebs, Planet

With the recent closing of Newzbin and then a few days later NZBMatrix, the heat is obviously on for Usenet indexers. The funny thing is though that these are, as any search engine, just aggregating meta data. The internet climate has obviously gotten extremely poisonous lately, where the mechanisms that the law provides (DMCA takedowns, [...]

Zombies, Run! for Android

Posted: 20th November 2012 by Gert in Android, Cone.be, Games

I first heard about “Zombies, Run!” from their Kickstarter campaignin 2011. I was intrigued by the concept and kept an eye on it. I seriously considered supporting the project, but because they didn’t support Android at first (they announced support further in the funding drive) and because I had kinda lost faith in the project, [...]

Call of Cthulhu: Wasted Land for Android

Posted: 13th November 2012 by Gert in Android, Cone.be, Games

A opinion on Call of Cthulhu: Wasted Land. Google Play Store: Call of Cthulhu: Wasted Land   I came upon the game through the current Indie Gala IX, that was offering the game in a pay what you want action. The first experiences didn’t bode well. The game restarts any time your screen locks, and [...]

Cleaning the XBMC movie collection

Posted: 5th November 2012 by Gert in Cone.be, Linux, Planet

I have a lot of movies in t he XBMC server and not all of those are worth watching. Generally, anything with a rating lower than 5 is probably not worth the time! So I wanted to get a list of bad movies with ratings! You can set up XBMC to store the data in [...]

Near Field Communication

Posted: 1st November 2012 by Gert in Android, Information technology

A while back, I got a wad of info together about NFC. Planning to do something with it. Life however happened and now the idea has fled my mind and all that remains are these NFC links. So here they are:   NFC is the new technology that Google is pushing these days. And there [...]

Gnome Shell Animated Background

Posted: 30th October 2012 by Gert in Cone.be, Linux, Planet

The support for animated backgrounds in Gnome is not new, but the path to actually rolling your own and activating it on your system is all but easy today. Ubuntu offers 2 magically changing backgrounds but no information about how to do this yourself. There is a cute “+” button that allows you to add [...]

Ubuntu 12.10

Posted: 24th October 2012 by Gert in Linux

Seeing some really really annoying install errors! Upgrade to 12.10. Still has that ugly “The upgrade needs a total of 24,0 M free space on disk ‘/boot’. error” though. — Gert (@g3n) Oktober 19, 2012   The upgrade will continue but the ‘linux-image-extra-3.5.0-17-generic’ package may not be in a working state. #omg — Gert (@g3n) [...]

On being knowledgeable about life versus living

A quote from “Trust Me, I’m Lying: Confessions of a Media Manipulator”. Quote by Paul Lazarsfeld and Robert Merton : The interested and informed citizen can congratulate himself on his lofty state of interest and information and neglect to see that he has abstained from decision and action. In short, he takes his secondary [...]
