After long deliberation & starting reading the wonderfull Chronicles of Amber again, I decided the Amber universe is a wonderfull theme for any server I need naming!
There s a whole wad of names in there, so no running out of names anytime soon
And the first one, the Soekris, is obviously going to be Oberon!

Checkit!
At just 5.25 x 8 inches and 164 pages, Ubuntu Pocket Guide and Reference is a compact yet comprehensive guide to everyday Ubuntu use.
It’s ideal for those who need vital information on all aspects of using Ubuntu, but who don’t have time to wade through thick documentation.
Each chapter of Ubuntu Pocket Guide and Reference tackles an aspect of Ubuntu.
First, you learn about installation—getting Ubuntu onto your computer—after which you learn how to configure your computer’s hardware.
Following this, you’re introduced to the Ubuntu desktop, and the tricks and techniques of efficient day-to-day usage. The book then describes the highways of the Ubuntu filesystem, and gives a full run-down of Ubuntu’s file manager.
Next, the command-line is tackled in-depth, after which software management is explained. Finally, system security is described—configuring the firewall, installing antivirus, and encrypting sensitive data. Appendixes provide a glossary of terms, and a guide to understanding technical documentation.Written for anybody switching to Ubuntu, particularly former Windows users, Ubuntu Pocket Guide and Reference assumes zero Linux knowledge. It provides the wisdom of the expert user and concisely conveys core competencies.
And its Free in .pdf form! (the book itsself costs something, but hey, you cant complain about paying the paper & ink!) I “thumbed” through the pdf & it looks nice, a worthy publishing!

Viva IE6!
<option value=”4″ “selected”>
doesnt work
<option value=”4″ selected>
does.
Admittedly, there is no sound reason to quote the selected part (I guess it grew like that in the code somehow? I may ask someday) But its utterly annoying that this breaks ie6 and Only ie6.
Anyways, another one solved!

when you need to start a SECOND virtual windows XP!
(Or a second virtual whatever, I can imagine being quite irked having to start a second linux vm on a windows machine. Though most of all there because a second VM – regardless the virtualised OS – on a windows machine would effectively cripple windows beyond use. The multitasking has a hard time with one VM already.. Where on linux I barely notice the 2 running VMs..)
This is turning out a Great day!
The Lede cops called the leasing company today; something about my car being .. Something. I heard something about it being frozen.. and I heard something about an accident.. Wut de fuk?
It might also be about a friend calling the cops on anyone parking near his loading bay.. (which would be nearly illegal for the cops to make such a fuss about, if I’m not mistaking..)
The lease lady sounded quite surprised I was actually driving the car when she called (I had just pulled over to answer her 4th call in under 10 minutes..), her reaction as if the cop had led her to believe the car was totalled. And since they called me, totalled while I wasnt around, so someone would have driven into my parked car? I did a quick damage check around the car & if they did drive into my car, they did so without leaving any marks, which would be quite the feat since the car looks like an orange rolling onto it would damage it! I dont get it.
So I called back, the guy wasnt in & they ll call me back.
Wot De Fuck? I’m really curious what this is all about! And I’m already dreading the time this shit ll probably cost me to sort it out!

Changing from Windows to Linux, there were lots of things I liked much better in Linux. Now, whenever I’m on a windows machine, it drives me MAD for several reasons (one of the most blatant being the apparently crippled multitasking it offers. Maybe not crippled but definitely different from Linux & I like the linux way better!) The thing is though.. When I say “Whow, I like that better in Linux for that & that reason”, I’m being the classic converted linux zealot..
But its a totally different story when a habitual Linux user, who doesnt really know windows, gets shoved onto a Windows machine. Now THATS Different
And thats what the Linux in exile blog is all about
Someone thats been using linux for the last 10 years without even a whaft of Microsoft around him .. Jim Hall discovers Windows & blogs about it.
The honest likes (decently working sleep mode on low battery, ..) and dislikes (print screen, fonts, ..)
Its proving to be an Incredibly interesting read!
