is about not wanting to put more effort into something than necessary. (Not that I am saying that I’m spectacularly good at IT, but if anything, I believe I am getting better at it
)
I have this disk that constantly disconnects & takes a new device. First its sda, then its sdb. Viva gigantic external USB disks! Anyone storing data on external disks is MAD. Anyone using those disks to store things they dont want to lose is UTTERLY INSANE and Should Be COMMITTED! Fuck off & get to Arkham Assylum!
Anywho, thanks to the guy who lent me his external disk where he puts all the stuff I needed. I’m copying the data you asked for. Its a wad & I dont feel like living trough that HELL I just went trough in getting the data! So I needed something to help me & while rouso was sleeping on my left arm, I read the rsync manpage. Yeah, I read manpages. Sometimes I even print them & take them to bed.. although that might have been some exageration.
Anywho, I didnt really appreciate rsync & I should, because its AWSOME
(Read the manpage, you ll probably fall in love! I nearly did, luckilly I still like Viona & Emacs beter!!) Though, this is the command thats saving me..
rsync -rLkh –size-only –progress /mnt/data/path/ /mnt/disk/path/
& now, next time shit hits the fan, I’ll just remount the disk & start the rsync again! It ll check what files were already copied & continue from there. Good question here is if the checking wont take too long at the end of the process if it fails then .. but I’m honestly hoping I wont have to find out. (I wonder if anyone is actually reading this) There s a big chance it ll fail me there though :/
Anywho. I didnt feel like putting too much effort into the copying and that might sound lazy.. but in the end I learnt a lot about rsync & saved a whole lot of time over the next few days in getting the job done. Not to mention that I am now more likely to make that deadline!
yaay for everyone & yaay for lazyness!
